I LOVE THE JAPANESE!!!! Not because they do nude too, but because they exude an air of honesty. I love the way they smile at me in the street (I smile right back!!).

What is happening in Japan to make the Japanese so lovely? And how can I be more like them?

You’ll find it in Japan at the naked bathhouses or outdoor hot springs. People spending hours, sitting and talking totally naked. And of course seeing a foreign person just opens up for them to come over and practice their English. “How are you?” “Do you eat sushi?” And what’s worse is that is really popular to do with your coworkers on staff trips. I had one friend who, while sitting in a bath naked with her boss, her boss looks her up and down and says, “We’re so glad you’re not one of the fat Americans” Talk about not eating ever again. But unlike Denmark where you can find people nude at the beach or topless in the park, in Japan it is a sin (in some parts) to where only a tank top since you are showing too much chest.

I agree, there is nothing horrid about nudity.

But our kids should have a choice about whether they are nude with others.

They don’t get the chance if they are cultured in Denmark, where kids are made to strip naked and shower together regardless of whether it feels ‘right’.

It is such a joke to hear the people who call themselves Danes bragging about how child sexual abuse is rare here…when it is fecking endemic!!

I am glad you do understand why women from other cultures are not comfortable being naked in “public”, but as you are not from another culture, perhaps it will never be obvious how very much staring does go on in the naked public areas of Denmark (i think Germany is similar though?).

If it was so natural then why the hell they staring so much. It’s a horrible atmosphere.

I’ve been in other nudist scenarios in my time, in other countries, and I have to say, the peculiar ‘drinking it in’ aspect of the Danes in their public naked phase is really quite specific.

It’s creepy.

But as a woman from another culture who is not happy about being naked in public, I can tell you, you’ve been conditioned not to balk at the sight of nakedness.

Danish nakedness doesn’t have a feeling of purity to it. There is something weird about the disrespect this culture shows to privacy and one’s OWN body.

The last straw for me came when two old bags stood peering at a young girl showering. I demanded to know what in the hell they were paying so much attention to (the child was shrinking) and they informed me they were doing so to make sure she washed her crotch.

Get real May, it’s not right and it isn’t groovy.

Okay, I’ll try to explain it. It is disgusting to talk to people while they are changing or putting on body lotion etc, because in that moment they are vulnerable and/or touching their privates/underwear and making good eye contact means you will catch sight of their boobies and pubic hair in peripheral vision.

Showering communally means that I don’t clean my sweaty bum cleft either and this benefits no one, I can tell you.

Plus, being a (bit of a) homo, I end up ogling ladies’ lower backs (not bums or boobs for me) and feeling bad for invading their privacy.

Hey Khawaga! Long time!
I dont find the nudity horrid. I wish to someday, host a naked high-tea or walk past Amalienborg palace sniffing a rose in my naked glory. But till such a time arrives, I wish public spaces would make provisions for some privacy for those who need it.
