So, we wrapped up yet another round of apartment hunting and were on our way home in a bus. I was talking to my husband – of all things- about how my Danish phonetics teacher showed us a picture of her TWENTY TWO year old son. My teacher doesn’t look a day over 35! Yes we are the kind of couple that discuss teachers and their sons.
Just before our stop, a girl came up to us and asked – “Is your name June? ” and added “I read your blog”!!!!!
My legendary slow reflexes surfaced. I don’t know what I said to her or if I said anything at all. I should have asked her to pay for the place we just saw. It cant be a coincidence that I meet her on the very day we see an apartment we really like! That would also remind her not to talk to strangers on a bus ![]()
But hey you stranger on the bus 1A, sorry I didn’t even ask your name. I was quite shocked and surprised. Say hi in the comments section?
The husband thinks its quite cool because he has been on the cover of a magazine 5 times but has never been recognised. He once pointed out his picture to a guy at a shawarma stall, but the guy didn’t believe him. It might have to do with the fact that he mostly poses like this.

Now I am very curious about who else reads my blog. Silent readers, please say hi!!
You’re famous!
I should invest in big sunglasses and a hat, ikke?
i live in odense but if i’m in copenhagen i’ll def look for you and say hi! you have a great blog!
Please do. I promise not to bite.
I’m one of your silent readers
so am just dropping by with a “hello”
Hey! One of my dearest friends is also named Kimmy, but with an ‘i’. Kimi.
That is SO cool, June!
Yep!
HI ! If I saw you on a bus, I’d be more like:Hey you’re June , you’re June. How are you? Hows life going, oh,wait, that I already know from the blog
I keep the tangy bits about my life out of this, so maybe I will still have some gup to give you!
Hi June!
Hey old timer!
I am reader not silent though. I commented twice maybe?
Did she get off the bus after saying she reads your blog?
I follow your outfits too! We got down at the same stop, but running after her to find out her name would have me a bit stalkerish- no?
he he…Seems you are famous…ENJOY it…
I read all your posts but couldn’t comment as I read it during my office hour and its not possible.
But I have contributed couple of times to your comment section
…
LOL what if your colleagues read this?!
he he…Lets assume they are not reading any of these else you will get more comments as then I will have to read it from home…
*waves at June*
*waves back*!
HELLO!
Hey the cuteset four feet niner!
Hi June,
just a greeting from another fan of your blog!
Hey!
Hi ..
allo.
Hihi,
Very cool! Was the fan hot? And did she spoke in English or Danish?
I’m flicking that picture for my FB profile pic, btw.
Kthxbai.
Ok that REALy is my husband lol. She spoke in English. I wouldnt have understood if she spoke in Danish LOL!
And you think I would have wanted to know her name or blogged about it if she looked loserish or like she had been drinking for mind-numbing years?
Hello!
I’ve been reading your blog for about three months. My husband and I were thinking of moving to Denmark and so I started checking out the expats blogs. Your honesty is so refreshing….. and very helpful for someone who wants to know what it’s really like over there. I love your writing style. Thanks for being willing to share so much….. in such a humorous way.
Hey, Have you guys moved yet? I write a lot of crap about DK, but take it with a pinch of whatever you like. DK is just as good or bad as any other place.
Sadly, we decided that now is not the time.
Looking forward to hopefully moving there someday. My husband lived there for a year while he was studying architecture in college and I’m technically danish by heritage so I’d love to see the “home country.” I’ll let you know if we ever make it there. Thanks for sharing your story.
Me, me! But then you already know I exist. So young and so famous! What next, June? Cosmo covers?
Not famous yet, but its just a matter of making a sex tape. The young part was left behind 5 years ago
Hi,
I love your writing. it makes me laugh.
Thank you.
… checking in…
but no, wasn’t me on the bus!
I would KNOW you if I saw you!
*Silent reader raises hand to mark attendance*
hej!
silent reader here.. thanks for the help in FID and writing good blogs!
MC
Ehy you are welcome! You keep a blog too, right? Haven’t been to FID in ages, that place had become a bit annoying.
Yeah. I dont check FID regularly -think forums is the last resort you would go if you cant find it in google.
hi one more silent reader saying hi by the way i too had to go through the phase ofnot knowing a language in a new state and it really gripes that you cant retort on any thing( frustating….)
Which language did you learn?
Hi June!
I also love your blog. I’m addicted to it. Hardly every comment since all comments are anyway a great read. Greetings from Scotland
Thank you for reading.
Maybe you were hallucinating?
No. AND I was not wearing my glasses or contacts so I wouldn’t be able to recognise her if I saw her again
Now I sound like a lair
Next time I meet her, I am gonna put up video proof.
It was me in disguise. I was fucking with your head.
So you are definitely not a lair.
Love your blog!! I’m always in stealth mode
After meeting a few Danish boys, I have become fascinated with Denmark ! Your blog has been awesome in giving me a different perspective on the country and the culture!
Hi June, I did comment…..once…..sometime back. I love your blog and am confident you will make millions…………if…….and……..when you write a book on your experiences. Call me for the book release party
Yes, I agree.
hI
hi I am learniing telugu I know hindi & eng
I love to read yr blog grt sense of hum & also int to know abt danish culture
Hi June,
It wasn’t me on the bus though.
I got you on RSS
Hello there! Your blog is fantastic and funny, especially as after living in Århus for 6 months I completely understand some of your problems with Denmark
I’m here for another 6 months, and am contemplating doing a Master’s in Copenhagen sometime. Hmm, that must mean I like it here!
Hugs from Jutland
You are either in love with a Dane or you love self mutilation!
Haha, maybe a bit of both! And my throat muscles need a workout (or a coughing fit) anyway
I’m told speaking Welsh should make it easier, but I don’t know about that!
HI June.. I remember commenting a couple of time perhaps..am tied up for time but i zip thru yr blog atleast once a week..hence the infrequent comments… i used to visit Denmark very often from 2006 until 2009. was even offered a job as a pilot there…Let me clarify, a sea pilot not an airline pilot..hence the interest in the danish way of life..Good luck and happy blogging
I knew of the word captain being used for both sky and the sea- whats a sea pilot?
A pilot is a mariner who guides ships through dangerous or congested waters, such as harbours or river mouths. However, the pilot is only an advisor, as the captain ( also referred to as master) remains in legal, overriding command of the vessel.

Hello!
Hey!love your blog-you have oodles of style-both literary and fashion!
someone i know from India recently had a baby in Denmark. this is his experience when it came to naming his baby. names have been deleted to protect privacy. Strange that a government should control baby naming. ofcourse strange/obnoxious names could be refused but otherwise, i do not see the fuss
What’s in a name? Apparently a lot! Our original plan was to name our baby boy as:
First Name: Sidartha
Middle Name: M**i
Last Name: V******
So, we completed the baby name registration form provided by the hospital. In Denmark, all baby births and names are registered at the local church. At the church, a very sweet and helpful lady queries the names database and showed us us that:
1. There is nobody else in Denmark that is named ‘Sidartha’. All unique names have to be approved by the state and the process will take a few weeks.
2. ‘M**i’ is not an approved middle name and if we want it, we will have to document the roots of the name (Wife’s mom’s middle name).
However, ‘Siddhartha’ and other spellings of it are available. And, ‘Mani’ is approved as the second first name and it is equivalent to a middle name.
We gave the kiddo the choice of picking either (a) the true Sanskrit transliteration of “Siddhartha” or (b) the consonant trimmed “Sidartha”. The kiddo selected (a). We got the birth certificate in 2 minutes and the yellow civil registration card arrived today after 2 weeks
I have commented a couple of times before; so not really a silent reader. But anyways, nice blog.
Abdu
Hi June,
I drop by your blog every once in a while because you write so well and I am interested in your experience. My mother was Danish and a love immigrant. Growing up, we would take a trip back there every year or two. Now I have taken my husband and family to live in the States so we are a different kind of immigrant but I love how the internet lets me learn about people’s lives.
I stop by because I love your writing… Hello from California
hie !
i am one of the silent readers too ! i think you are very interesting .. keep writing !
Hi June,
We saw you at the Central Station in Copenhagen. You and your husband looked busy, so we didn’t want to disturb you.
But next time we’ll say hi
We have also moved from one side of the world to the other. You can check out our blog – I have put in a link.
Kind Regards
Sofie & Noah
